Federal & state returns both went through, and then on top of that I got a bonus check for 70 hours of unused sick pay from last year. So Oppo, what should I buy? I’m allowing myself a budget of $3k, but I can stretch it to 4 for the right car.

I’m leaning towards a Jag XJS, but I know it’ll be a nightmare so I’m open to other suggestions. I want a coupe, RWD, automatic is acceptable depending on the car. I want something older, preferably pre-OBD.

A non-problematic XJS for under $4k could be a tough find, and only the 6 cylinder ones came with a manual transmission, but they are way cool.

There are two in-budget XJSs on Craigslist right now that have a current state inspection sticker. My DD is already a manual I-6 so that doesn’t matter.

More power to you man. I remember fondly the days of rebate checks. How about a Volvo 240 Turbo wagon? I’ve owned a sedan and a wagon and they were both a freaking hoot and easy to work on. Down side is I was always working on them but a Jag is no different and parts are cheaper.

Buy a nice one would be the best advice.

Would you buy a Ferrari Testarossa from a man in a string vest who's main implement of fixing cars is a claw hammer and zip ties? Why would you buy an equally complex Jag from the same man?

I have an E39. An LS would just be redundant.

The only Japanese cars that interest me (240z, RX-7, etc) are way out of my budget.
